Create the protagonist of your story:
Pick a first name, last name, honorifics, and have a nickname, too. Use any pronouns you prefer, including using multiple types and implementing your own set. While you’ll be able to decide how fond you are of everyone in your life, there are two people you’ll meet whose connection to you will go deeper than all the rest: Qiu and Tamarack. Each one the same age as you and both living right next door.
Qiu “Autumn” Lin:
A true Golden Grove local, born and raised. Qiu is the kid to know in that town. The most popular, the most charming, until it all becomes too much. There’s a point where a coldness comes over Qiu and they shut out all except a few people. However, the rain doesn’t fall forever, and sadness can heal with real support. The day comes when Qiu is able to shine again, even brighter than before.
In Autumn you will find a thoughtful individual who just needs some time to embrace the person they’ve always known they were. Qiu was assigned male at birth, but comes out as genderfluid (they/he) partway through the story.
Tamarack Baumann:
A fellow newcomer, Tamarack moved in only about a week before you did. She’s a darling joy to those who get to have her company. And like the forests she loves so much, Tamarack is always changing in big and small ways. That isn’t always for the better. She’s surrounded by wrong branches, leading her down paths that only cause hurt. Yet despite all the pricks and snags on her path, the heart always remains the same.
With Tamarack you’ll see a kind miss who has a lot to learn about herself, but will never stop trying to find her way. Tamarack is a woman who only ever uses she/her pronouns.
[Qiu and Tamarack have more than one hairstyle they can end up with in the future.]
Build your life with them:
Set your unique "dynamic meters" that broadly describe how you behave towards one of the leads, keeping them consistent or switching that around as you grow up. Qiu's and Tamarack's dynamic towards you will develop in a custom way over the years based on who you are and what happens.
A romance with Qiu or Tamarack can develop as love at first sight, a longtime platonic closeness turning into last-minute confessions, a slow and gradual growth of affection that started at nothing, or anything in between.
Friendships form in just as many varied ways, ranging from immediate connections to hard-earned fondness, from casual company to irreplaceable family, and more. What you have together is complex with history and detail, yet still as natural as the leaves changing colors in the fall.

read through the demo in one solid sitting, and I'm now eagerly awaiting the full release. the writing is very real. i almost feel like i for a glimpse at what of might have been like if i got to transition as a youngster.
Tamarack might be one of my favorite VN characters ever. so stinkin cute.
And while I'm not the biggest fan of Qiu, i like how easy it was to play out that oh-so-familiar experience of 'even if i don't like this person a lot, they're a part of my life, and i don't actually want to hurt them, so I'm going to just be polite'. the option in that last moment, 'we don't have to be friends to look out for each other when it counts' was basically how i treated that entire scenario. Just lovely.
Will it possibly be longer then Our Life: Beginning And Always, once it's finished? I loved that one and I love this one as well, but the first one felt to short for me, even tho i know it was decently long, but do to my perception of time basically disappearing if I'm actively doing something. It felt short.
Yes, Now & Forever will be quite a bit longer than Beginnings & Always. In fact, even the early access release will be about as many words as the entirety of Beginnings & Always, DLC included. Thanks so much for following, and hope you're looking forward to it!
I will be! I've replayed it about 10 or so times even before the newest update that made the Step 2 much longer. After which I've played it about 5 more times.

Exciting personal news, I drew a character more than just one instance! I've drawn my beloved Sera Love again, but this time included her full progression and her actual sense of style, plus a bunch of forgotten details and things I figure would be nice to know. I can't help but find her absolutely adorable and love her with literally every atom of my body. Anyway, my little sweetheart here is finally done, cuz this is about the extent of what my brainstorming could accomplish. This took me 11 hours and 24 minutes, only 2 hours less than the last one. Thats what I get for deciding to do 3 individual drawings both times, however this time I tried not to draw so many individual fingers, and also I didn't render anything so the hair is pretty flat. Yet still, only 2 hours less. I blame the frilly details.
Sidenote and something you wouldn't understand unless you understood, Sera hates Lutefisk. But it's not a well known food item, so I figured I didn't need to take up that much more space with an unnecessary word. However, it's the bane of both our existences.

you know the mc is peak when their fashion style is amazing, even throughout 8 years 🥹🥹 ESPECIALLY STEP ONE, I LOVE HER STEP 1 DESIGN.

i dont know much about how sera behaves / acts, but i SURE do knew that blythe would ABSOLUTELY adore her and their hair if they ever met 🥹🥹 she doesn't know too much about space but she'll totally shower sera with all types of food whenever they meet
Yeah, she's platinum blonde in my head, but technically the game reads it as warm hued white hair. But uhm, Idk how to describe her personality. She's confident yet shy, like she does whatever she wants without shame but the second she has to actually speak up, she fizzles out. However, she's cool for just silently hanging out, and she does whatever as long as it's not super detrimental. She's just a little green grape. She also plays the guitar, though it's something pretty much only her mom knows about because she's too shy to play for others.

I’m excited to see all the babies as adults in step 3/4!! Getting to step three for the first time in beginning and always was amazing. Cove grew up so much, I know it’ll feel the same in now and forever !! Especially since they’ve kept the step 4 designs a secret so far. I’m excited to see qiu and tamarack in their 20s. Also their full development! It really felt like you grew up with cove so I’m excited for the same thing here

Remember me? Yea no, me neither, I have short term memory loss. Anyway, I saw a few days ago that people were posting their OC's and I thought that looked fun so I did it too. This is Sera Love! Or one of them, since I actually use the same name for every game I play and always try to design a completely unique character unlike any of my previous characters. I like it, it's fun. Though, it might look a bit rough, I haven't been drawing very frequently. This is my first piece in 2 months. Tragic, I know. She's a little shy cutie pie.

This is actually hilarious because as a kid, Sera often played pretend as an heir and her dad as a sun king that lived far far away and their mom as the moon queen, and thats how she discovered thier name meant evening in the first place, and the reason she decided to start using it. This is unreasonably on par with their character, I'm giggling at how it's like you've been in my head.

YES! I saw no recent pictures of anyone else doing a ballerina character, but I used to be in dance so the second I saw it was an option I automatically assigned it without question. Sera cannot escape Ballet, I simply can't allow it. And also, I was waiting for the name mention, it took me too long to decide on her last name. I did the same last name in b&a and there was a scene where someone said something along the lines of, "I love the Love family" and it was just funny and ended up cementing the name. And she's a space geek, too. Their nickname for Qiu is Pluto, and Tamarack is Mars. If you've been in my head, you better not have rearranged anything, the random piles of stuff are just neatly arranged to look like a mess.
Detailed review Pre-Preword: This game directly got me into coming out to my mum as nonbinary, which means this will have always left an impression on my life, so thanks!
Detailed review Preword: With how I like to play customisable protag VNs, being always just being myself, this is in no way my usual cup of tea and I'd usually steer clear of anything with a romance focus. But as the demo is free and I found this through an even more romance focused VN (straight up ad in A Date with Death, which I also only played because I was trying something new and it was free "Friendly Neighbours in your area" indeed, I literally only found this because the advert was too darn funny), I wanted to give this a fair shot. For a bit of context about myself, I'm aroace and while I like seeing characters get all romantic style, given that I was playing myself, I really wanted nothing to do with that system. I'll probably throw in an OC at some point and explore a bit more of the crush system!
Actual detailed review:
Before making this comment, I left a 5 star review which I think is shorter than this comment is already, I'm going to try and break this review down into chunks so it makes sense and I'm not just rambling from topic to topic!
Choices
A big part of this game is the choice focused system of how you interact with the world, most choices are made up of a range of emotional responses, split into verbal and non-verbal which some texting options in the step 2 preview. Now I am someone that wants to push choice systems to the edge, I played the Stanley Parable when it was still a Half Life 2 mod and it ingrained itself on my mind, so far, the only games to really make me feel like my choices mean a darn are Slay the Princess, Scarlet Hollow, Disco Elysium, and this game. This blows almost everything out of the water!
I played as a very quiet but still active person and the game accounted for that! Past the intro, if my character auto acted, it would be non-verbal, and because of that, the times that my character did talk, it felt more impactful from my PoV. I think the only time my character actually had a full convo was in the park with Qiu in the step 2 memory.
Again, I need to play though with different choices, a different way of looking at things but I feel like based on what I've seen, I won't be disappointed!
Characters
Qiu and Tamarack are fantastic characters, they feel so... alive, and darn it I was fully invested in what was going on. I'll get into it later but these two had me breaking down into tears twice and I am usually a very tough nut to crack! I think it's because they're like the same age as me but it digs at my memories, the feeling that you're gonna take on the world together but things getting distant later on, I'll admit, the step 2 preview diner scene made me into a wreck and I don't know if I want to cheer with a 10/10 or scream.
Qiu's friends are fun and I enjoyed their antics, though looking at the other Our Life game and I'll probably end up playing that too soon! But having "the boys" all come back in the step 2 preview memory was amazing, felt great seeing the boys come back!
I liked the step 2 preview characters but didn't really have enough of them to form a real opinion yet
The mum is nice but not the most reliable, not in a bad way, she's a grounding presence in the mess of life and motherly and all that
Setting
Small rural town where everyone seems to know everyone, good setting and a great backdrop to have some but not too many reoccurring characters around. As I've said already, given that step 2 is in 2014, I'm around the age of the characters so while I'm not American, this still brought up some memories for me, really pulled me back a bit.
The Autumn focus is lovely, the oranges of the leaves really give a warm homely feeling, the previous game was Summer so I hope the set is completed at some point :P
Art
Smashed it out of the darn park, this is beautiful, the backdrops, the character sprites, the little chibi icons, the CGs, the UI. If I didn't look at the options menu, I'd be questioning what engine this was made on, it's straight up fantastic!
I don't think I have more comments than that so I'll just reiterate that this is an amazing looking game!
My Experience
I'll detail how I played to give context! I started as a boy, quiet but making a good and quick friendship with both leads, despite being very quiet, my character was very active, always participating in whatever was going on, mostly quietly being in the conversation and playing around while keeping to the rules. For the step 2 preview, they came out as agender at the start of the step to everyone but otherwise keeping a similar personality to step 1 and continuing to be good friends with both leads. I'll just go through the heavy hitting scenes for me
So as the pre-preword says, this game caused me to come out to my mum, I'm agender myself and I just wanted to see how the whole changing pronouns would work in this game, so I do the scene of coming out to my mum- tears flooded down my face before my head could even figure out why, within 2 days I used a letter to come out. So if the devs read this long, chunky review, thank you for that, I don't think that was the intended outcome of the scene but it pushed me to do something I need to get done.
The step 2 preview scene at the diner was heartbreaking, I remember my character trying to gesture for everyone to go together and I'm just like in tears because I know it wasn't going to work and it didn't of course, and I'm just like remembering distance growing between friends when I was younger
The step 2 preview memory, Qiu straight disappearing, I remember being online a ton when I was 14 and I ended up encountering a lot of people that needed help, needed a push up, and I was in no way equipped for this at that age. I don't know if it counts as breaking my own character but I believe I chose 3 vocal choices in a row in that scene, I really wanted to help them, darn it I'm crying thinking about it
And to end this segment on a high, Qiu casually going "We're on the same level of hell!" with sparkles if you come out to them as nonbinary caught me so off guard and was probably some of the hardest I've laughed at a VN
Conclusion
10/10, if the release keeps this up, it might straight up topple the duo of VNs that are my joint 3rd faves. And as this has made a sizable change in my life directly, I have to put it as my third fav game of all time, the only ones that get up that list are literally life changing

Hello! I've been playing this over and over for almost a year now and I absolutely adore the representation in this game! I wanted to ask for quite a while now if it would be possible to suffer from mutism or selective mutism, as an autistic girl I feel like that'd be so cool to add since the game only categorizes it as "shyness", when in fact there are times when I could really want to talk but just being unable to, also, would it be possible to add disabilities such as being deaf, in a wheelchair, cane etc? If it's possible of course!!! Thank you so much for making this game GBpatch, love and support from me and the hundreds of ocs I created while playing <3
Hello! We're so glad you enjoy the game. While we love your ideas for additional kinds of representation for the the MC, unfortunately things like that are beyond the scope of what we can do. There are so many possibilities not just for how the MC could be, but also when they happen (Step 1 versus Step 2 versus Step 3, etc.), and each would require multiple different kinds of variations. It's simply too large for us to be able to include even a portion, so we're just trying the best we can. We encourage players to head canon beyond what we can show ourselves, of course! I'm so shocked of how far this game as gotten, i'm so proud of the GB team and everyone working on this game. I have played this game about 246 times (yes I counted and have I most of the script memorized) I'm so INLOVE with this game and the characters. (its gotten to a point where I'm so in love I'll just might yumeship with the characters) This game is my personal definition of the quote "even the stupidest things can save someones live" cause it definitely saved mine. <3
Cant believe I started playing this game as soon as the demo came out I believe it was 2022? Im 18 now this is making me so emotional this game has helped me so much especially mentally I was going through rough times still am but those last years were the worst this game was what I was looking up to when I came home from school a game I could cry to I may seem weird but I love imagining myself being in the game itself and creating my own storylines or writing my own stories for myself this game truly saved me from alot of pain in my life and I cant wait for the full game to be released Im so excited yet so anxious because it feels like its going towards the end I felt the same when I played our life beginnings and always I hope the team realizes how many people thier helping just by creating these games dont let anyone tell you in whatever age you are that you are too old because these types of games actually make a diffrence and sometimes you can even learn from them I love this game I love this entire community and I cant wait to see more I love the team for what thier doing and I hope they continue doing so as soon as I have a job im buying every single thing they ever released (as long as its still available including DLCS) and I will probably never move on from these games and always come back for them no matter how long its been - Nicole ❤️🥰

This game scares me because it's THE perfect dating sim. It's even too perfect. It's too good, I love it too much, there are too many cool features, you can do too much with your own character, you can design your own mom AND your room which is too much, but even then there isn't enough of it! I can't let this end prematurely, but I can't stop playing, and all I can say is bro, just download it. If you don't download the game, you'll never know what visual-novel heaven looks like. It's beautiful here. There're so many options! If I had to sum up the game's vibe, it's like the song I Miss Your Warm Hands by I Don't Like Mirrors, that's the vibe I got from it while playing. Can't wait for step 2+, I think I'm so excited I might go through mitosis.

I don't really have many words. It's a really good demo. I like choice based things, and I've played this demo since 2022, and I've played it over, and over, and over, and you get the point. I've never played a demo so much before, but this, without even being close to a full game, blew me out of the water.

Hello everyone! It's been about 100 days since I last played, but coming back felt like meeting them for the very first time all over again. There really are just some characters you can't help but love, no matter when you return. 😚😚 So happy to be here again! ❤️
I have said this a lot but it is crazy how good this demo is by itself. I first played this several years ago when I was a whole different person, and I'd never heard of an 'Our Life' game before.
Every few months I would pick it up again, and eventually I played the first game and I love it a lot, but I especially love this one because of how many more options there are. I'd be thinking something like, "I wish I could say this," flip to the next page of choices, and hey, guess what, I can?!
There's also something it captures about just. everything. I think all the description of everyone's small quirks is amazing and it makes it feel really real. Everyone reminds me of someone I've known. I also think the art brings it together so well, I love Opal's questioning eyebrow raise expression.
Not only that, it's the fact that everyone is so accepting. I didn't like to talk irl, so I was overjoyed that there are non-verbal dialogue options for everything. And nobody judged, in fact, they acknowledged it and made sure to accomodate to it. Which helped me realise that in real life, maybe nobody is judging as hard as I think they are.
