Okay. Here are some thoughts on the writing so far, it's pretty great. All characters except for one seem to have a purpose within the story. Everyone except for Baxter Ward. I get that he is supposed to be more of a background character but he needs to do more other than "And Baxter just stood there unaffected by what just happened with a smirk on his face." Once is fine, but he's no longer interesting when he almost always gets described at great length by that in the story. It's irritating after a while.
Baxter is actually a cameo character. He won't play a big role in this game at all. He's much more prominently featured in the first game's DLC. Check that out if you think he's interesting enough. 🙂
Agreed, honestly. The devs clearly like to insert their characters from other games, and that's fine, but it never feels very organic or interesting imo. In the first Our Life game Shiloh and Jeremy felt the same way, especially in act 3. I was like, why am I here? Why am I being forced to interact with them? coming back to say that that the last time i played this game, which i think was 1.3.0, well since then my family and i have moved into a cul-de-sac area and, playing this game again at 1.3.5, the beginning of the game hits VERY different all of a sudden lol
whatever's out rn within the game is only a demo so the structure of the storyline is only a section of what it is as a whole in comparison to when the full game releases meaning whatevers happening between the characters (mc and qui/tamarack) is only a glimpse into what it plays out to be, it is only a demo not the full game thats why information and filler is missing. In the game there are ONLY TWO characters you can choose the romance route with as of now meaning the characters you are referencing (qui's group of friends) are not characters you can interact with in the sense of making them romance options. This is technically a romance game but can be played through with the platonic storyline with the two characters but if you are not interested in 1. qui (male - non binary) or 2. tamarack (female) in the romantic sense or the platonic friendship playout then i genuinely dont think this is the game for you as of now and would recommend you dont complain about the character options as the game is not targeted towards you and has a different audience, especially since there are many limited female and male tropes within games.
Just to highlight what the other reply to you mentioned, this game will mainly revolve around you and TWO other main characters, which are Tamarack and Qiu. The main point of this game isn't for it to be a romance visual novel, but to explore how you would react and feel if you grew up together with the both of them, along with all of the other side characters.
I'd recommend you check this game out anyway, but try to view it as though you're living in Golden Grove instead of just trying to get together with a particular character! You will definitely have a much more fulfilling experience. This is why GBPatch's games stand out from the rest of the other visual novel experiences, imo. Their goal isn't to deliver another inane run-of-the-mill rom-com story, but for you to experience growing up in a universe that they painstakingly crafted.
To answer your questions specifically, though:
1. Customisation options are really only limited to you. This includes your pronouns, name, visual appearance and how your room looks. Adjusting relationship dynamics only apply to Qiu and Tamarack.
2. The demo was crafted that way to show an example of how characters will change between the few time-skips that happen in between the main story. Depending on your choices, Tam or Qiu will react to you differently after the time-skip. Eg. you constantly spoke over Tam and constantly brushed her or her comments off. She might appear more reserved, or act more brusquely towards you.
3. Outfit customisation will most probably be limited to the beginning of every Step. This is because characters reference what you chose to wear/if you wore your hair differently/etc. It would be hell for the programmers to account for every state change if they allowed customisation at any point of time in the game.
I agree with the other commenters that this game might not be for you if you don't vibe with the romanceable characters, but I will add that if you haven't played the first Our Life game (Beginnings and Always), that game has a strictly male love interest, as well as two optional DLC love interests (also both male) that you can buy if either of their characters catch your fancy in the base game. If a more traditional male love interest is what you're looking for and you like how this game plays, I would recommend checking out the first installment :)

They're such adorable characters and very human, very real. Qiu and Tamarack are both adorable and a little annoying in equal turns and ever so endearing.

hey uhm so why does it say i have a virus when I try to unzip the PC demo download? (i didnt get one yet, my anti-virus stopped it) it wont let me unzip it to play ;-; is there really a virus?
The programming language Python, which is in this game, is sometimes falsely flagged as a virus at total random. There's nothing in the game that'd actually 'cause a problem on your device. You can try to tell the scanner to trust the file or turn it off just while the game is installing and then put it back on.
Try to download in another site, I think itch.io's server is bugged or something like that. Look for the game at steam, you should be able from there or from another site. Itch.io had a similar problem before and it took some days for them to fix it, so if you aren't hurry you could wait for them to fix it.
Hey there, huge fan of the first game and excited to try out Now and Forever. I've been trying to download the demo for a while and having a lot of trouble, maybe someone here can help me.
The dowload stops around 500 mb give or take no matter what I do. I tried dowloading through a different web browser but no luck. My computer has no problem downloading steam games or google drive files, only struggles with this demo apparently.
Has anyone else had this same problem? (I'm an Mac btw)
Upd8: Just downloaded sucessfully, it was a problem with the itch.io servers as the comment below says.
I had the same problem both in android and Windows. You can get the game in others sites though. Probably it's a problem in itch.io's server or something like that (They had this issue before). You should be able to download the demo via Steam.
hey, i love this game so so much, as well as beginnings & always but will it actually release in 2025?? i dont mean to sound impatient or to undermine your work at all but seeing the state it's in right now, that seems like really far away and too much time T_T would it be possible that it might release in sections? as in releasing the steps separately, or releasing the full game without the dlc first and then the dlc would come later?

Their plan is releasing the steps little by little, like they did with the first game. If you're too anxious to play this, you could pass your time playing the first one and the various DLCs (there's five or six, plenty of content to play) until another demo release.
The demo will be updated twice per year with improved features and new scenes, but I'm afraid we won't release entire Steps before Fall 2025. Sorry it's gonna be such a long wait from now.
It totally worth the wait!!! What you made with the first game is awesome and you made this game with so much more inclusiveness that it's overwhelming in good way. Keep doing this amazing work!!! Your games are beautiful and we can feel all the love, care and hard-working you put in it.

sometimes virus scanners mistake dowloads for being harmful, turn it off and after you extract turn it back on
You don't need to extract it, I don't know if it works for you but I can just open it without extracting.

The demo won't be updated again for another five-six months, I'm afraid. And it will be more Step 1 content, not anything from Step 2.

yes, extract them and if it says your firewall blocked a virus or something, it's not a virus, just click see more or read more and then click "run anyway"

hey uhm so why does it say i have a virus when I try to unzip the PC demo download? (i didnt get one yet, my anti-virus stopped it) it wont let me unzip it to play ;-; is there really a virus?

The programming language Python, which is in this game, is sometimes falsely flagged as a virus at total random. There's nothing in the game that'd actually 'cause a problem on your device. You can try to tell the scanner to trust the file or turn it off just while the game is installing and then put it back on.

Try to download in another site, I think itch.io's server is bugged or something like that. Look for the game at steam, you should be able from there or from another site. Itch.io had a similar problem before and it took some days for them to fix it, so if you aren't hurry you could wait for them to fix it.
If you give info on why you can't I can try to suggest a solution!
Itch.io was glitchy that day, the problem already is solved. They should be able to download tha game now
Hey there, huge fan of the first game and excited to try out Now and Forever. I've been trying to download the demo for a while and having a lot of trouble, maybe someone here can help me.
The dowload stops around 500 mb give or take no matter what I do. I tried dowloading through a different web browser but no luck. My computer has no problem downloading steam games or google drive files, only struggles with this demo apparently.
Has anyone else had this same problem? (I'm an Mac btw)
Upd8: Just downloaded sucessfully, it was a problem with the itch.io servers as the comment below says.
I had the same problem both in android and Windows. You can get the game in others sites though. Probably it's a problem in itch.io's server or something like that (They had this issue before). You should be able to download the demo via Steam.
Thanks for the tip! There doesn't seem to be a mac version on steam yet unfortunately but at least I know my computer is not the issue.
hey, i love this game so so much, as well as beginnings & always but will it actually release in 2025?? i dont mean to sound impatient or to undermine your work at all but seeing the state it's in right now, that seems like really far away and too much time T_T would it be possible that it might release in sections? as in releasing the steps separately, or releasing the full game without the dlc first and then the dlc would come later?

Their plan is releasing the steps little by little, like they did with the first game. If you're too anxious to play this, you could pass your time playing the first one and the various DLCs (there's five or six, plenty of content to play) until another demo release.

The demo will be updated twice per year with improved features and new scenes, but I'm afraid we won't release entire Steps before Fall 2025. Sorry it's gonna be such a long wait from now.
It totally worth the wait!!! What you made with the first game is awesome and you made this game with so much more inclusiveness that it's overwhelming in good way. Keep doing this amazing work!!! Your games are beautiful and we can feel all the love, care and hard-working you put in it.
