How are you trying to download it? If you're on a computer, you can try to download the game through the Itch app instead of the website. Or Itch might just be having server problems that will go away after a while.
I love this game sm. Its so cute and I love the slight flirting in the preview for Step 2 (I made my character and Qui have a crush on eachother) and its the cutest thing ever. I also get to start out as a boy, unlike irl which I came out in 7th grade (trans guy) ik it isnt far from 5th grade, but still. I also really like how I get a mom. Irl I cut my mom off for personal reasons, and didnt see her throughout 5th grade except maybe once at the hospital. But yea enough of my slight venting, I absolutely love it and cant wait till the full thing is out.
don't know why but I like that you have the option of changing your feelings in the Moments instead of the prelude of step 1. Again it just feels so much more realistic to me because, of course, you would be wary and indifferent when you meet someone new but your feelings would change over time based on how much time you spend and get to know the other person. I created my MC to be apprehensive and shy towards Qiu, because he reminds him of the bullies who had picked on him in his old school but his behavior changed when he saw how Qiu stood up against Darren's sexism and made MC acted friendly towards Qiu as oppose cold and indifferent. There is also a point where Qiu tells my MC how cool he is even though my MC came in last place in the race and there is an option in the dialogue box for the MC to have a gay panic moment of self-realization "Wait, I think I have a crush on him now?! Why is this happening??"There is so much room for improvisation and complexity in this game.
Honestly, the game is too good. I have been sleep-deprived for the past week because I keep playing this game at 3:00 AM in the morning. At this point, I think I know all the dialouge.

I get that he is supposed to be more of a background character but he needs to do more other than "And Baxter just stood there unaffected by what just happened with a smirk on his face." Once is fine, but he's no longer interesting when he almost always gets described at great length by that in the story. It's irritating after a while.
Baxter is actually a cameo character. He won't play a big role in this game at all. He's much more prominently featured in the first game's DLC. Check that out if you think he's interesting enough. 🙂
Agreed, honestly. The devs clearly like to insert their characters from other games, and that's fine, but it never feels very organic or interesting imo. In the first Our Life game Shiloh and Jeremy felt the same way, especially in act 3. I was like, why am I here? Why am I being forced to interact with them? lol yea,this is the demo, sorry if u already knew it:3,but you only can have the prologue/first scenes of the step two, if says thank you, is because is over,wait till 2025-2024 or to buy the dlc 😭
coming back to say that that the last time i played this game, which i think was 1.3.0, well since then my family and i have moved into a cul-de-sac area and, playing this game again at 1.3.5, the beginning of the game hits VERY different all of a sudden lol
whatever's out rn within the game is only a demo so the structure of the storyline is only a section of what it is as a whole in comparison to when the full game releases meaning whatevers happening between the characters (mc and qui/tamarack) is only a glimpse into what it plays out to be, it is only a demo not the full game thats why information and filler is missing. In the game there are ONLY TWO characters you can choose the romance route with as of now meaning the characters you are referencing (qui's group of friends) are not characters you can interact with in the sense of making them romance options. This is technically a romance game but can be played through with the platonic storyline with the two characters but if you are not interested in 1. qui (male - non binary) or 2. tamarack (female) in the romantic sense or the platonic friendship playout then i genuinely dont think this is the game for you as of now and would recommend you dont complain about the character options as the game is not targeted towards you and has a different audience, especially since there are many limited female and male tropes within games.
Just to highlight what the other reply to you mentioned, this game will mainly revolve around you and TWO other main characters, which are Tamarack and Qiu. The main point of this game isn't for it to be a romance visual novel, but to explore how you would react and feel if you grew up together with the both of them, along with all of the other side characters.
I'd recommend you check this game out anyway, but try to view it as though you're living in Golden Grove instead of just trying to get together with a particular character! You will definitely have a much more fulfilling experience. This is why GBPatch's games stand out from the rest of the other visual novel experiences, imo. Their goal isn't to deliver another inane run-of-the-mill rom-com story, but for you to experience growing up in a universe that they painstakingly crafted.
To answer your questions specifically, though:
1. Customisation options are really only limited to you. This includes your pronouns, name, visual appearance and how your room looks. Adjusting relationship dynamics only apply to Qiu and Tamarack.
2. The demo was crafted that way to show an example of how characters will change between the few time-skips that happen in between the main story. Depending on your choices, Tam or Qiu will react to you differently after the time-skip. Eg. you constantly spoke over Tam and constantly brushed her or her comments off. She might appear more reserved, or act more brusquely towards you.
3. Outfit customisation will most probably be limited to the beginning of every Step. This is because characters reference what you chose to wear/if you wore your hair differently/etc. It would be hell for the programmers to account for every state change if they allowed customisation at any point of time in the game.
I agree with the other commenters that this game might not be for you if you don't vibe with the romanceable characters, but I will add that if you haven't played the first Our Life game (Beginnings and Always), that game has a strictly male love interest, as well as two optional DLC love interests (also both male) that you can buy if either of their characters catch your fancy in the base game. If a more traditional male love interest is what you're looking for and you like how this game plays, I would recommend checking out the first installment :)

They're such adorable characters and very human, very real. Qiu and Tamarack are both adorable and a little annoying in equal turns and ever so endearing.

sometimes virus scanners mistake dowloads for being harmful, turn it off and after you extract turn it back on
