I absolutely love this game! It's so realistic and inclusive! It deals with a lot of social issues very well. I don't think I know any people in any game or even people in real life with lesbian parents, but I really felt comfortable with them because they were just honestly wonderful parents who loved my character for who she was. I also found the parts about learning about my character's biological parents and Cove's parent's divorce to be very well executed. I absolutely loved how I got to customize my character and Cove. It was a bit sad that I couldn't get any CGs with my character in it, but it's completely understandable since I could basically make my character look however I want her to so it'd probably cost a large fortune to draw all of the potential CGs. I felt Cove was so personal to me and I absolutely loved him. There were so many choices and I felt like my choices really mattered and my choices were even referenced later on in the game, which I thought was AWESOME because I don't think many games really do that. Even if I felt I made a choice I didn't like, or I wanted to see what the other choices would do, I could always just scroll back and my choices would just undo, and I thought that was super neat. There were just so many choices that I could make and the game never made me feel like I made the "wrong" choice, like in most otome games. I was just me, and as long as I loved Cove, he'd like me back. This made me feel super relaxed because I won't ever feel like that to get the best out of the game, I would need a walkthrough or anything. I love the art and the setting of the story too. It was so cute! I loved how all the characters looked and I thought they were absolutely gorgeous. There were so many drawn characters, even ones that weren't really that relevant, but I thought it was really nice because it made me feel more immersed in the world and the world just felt real to me. In real life, not everyone you meet will stick with you for life, and not everyone who made an impression on you will absolutely be important to you, and I felt like the game reflected on that fact. The minor characters weren't useless clutter, they were people that I got to know and love, even if only just for a short while. I love how the original story is free but you have to pay for extra DLC. This way, I'd only have to pay after I knew I was totally going to enjoy the game, which I did! I would totally recommend this to anyone because everything about this game was awesome. The characters and settings all felt so real and the art and music made it so immersive. The game was also really inclusive to everyone, and I'm really glad I was able to play this game, so thanks to the developers!
God this game is a godsent. Absolutely my favourite otome and visual novel just in general. I can't wait for more content and I haven't even finished the game yet! I have to pace myself or I'll get too impatient for more! But for real, this is amazing and the creators seem so attentive to their players. They made a big fan out of me. I'll for sure support their future work too!
I'll also probably but the game DLC a second time if I have to (own it on Steam) so I can have it on my phone as well c:
I've been following this game since early development and I'm really glad that the full game is out! I played one full playthrough on my desktop, but then when I tried to install it on my laptop I cannot customize the MC :( When I press the arrows, nothing happens. Same with the checkboxes.
Have you ever downloaded the game before? Like a demo or version 1.0? If so, I'd recommend deleting all prior versions and also re-downloading/installing 1.1. It's possible that your computer is unfortunately struggling to run the game in certain ways, though.
Don't get me wrong I love this game a lot, I supported on patreon when I was able to afford it but I downloaded the game and it won't install. Every time I try to install it 'game can't install' pops up. I'm an android user and normally I make sure that I have more than enough room on my phone for it.
I'm sorry you're having trouble with that! Are you downloading directly from Itch or through the App? And does your phone have any firewall/virus scanner programs? Those sometimes decide the file is weird and won't let it be put on the phone so turning that off could help. It's also possible that Itch is just being weird and sometimes you can't properly download things and then the issue just goes away the next day or so.
Were you able to play the game in the past? If so, maybe try removing any old files you have of it on the device in case your phone thinks you already have the game and that's why it can't be readded. I hope one of those ideas helps!
I really love this game and don't get me wrong I love Cove, he is an angel but once I saw Baxter I fell in love with him and wished we could've had him as a love interest also.
I very much love Our Life, but I am running into a bit of a glitch where after 5 or so minutes, all audio in the game just totally stops. I am running Mac, and I have the Voiced Name DLC installed. Just thought I might give you all a heads up!
(Cove is so adorable in every iteration/route btw! You should be so proud of the game you produced!)
But I have a problem : I'm an Android user and I downloaded the game before and played it with no issues, then I deleted it to download the latest version but I couldn't download it. I kept trying but I still can't download either version.
I'm sorry for the trouble. Can you tell me more details? Does your device say it's not allowed or does nothing happen when you try to click download or something else?
I have heard of Androids sometimes having errors like that, it tends to because of the cache on the phone or something rather than the file you're trying to download. Here's one thread trying to solve it, but if you search "Android Download Failed" you can find more info on it! https://support.google.com/chrome/thread/15277772?hl=en
You just have to download the Android files from the DLC pages once you've bought them and then install them like normal! It's okay if you already have the free base version or if you don't. If you're getting errors, feel free to let us know.
I knew that I was going to like this game but I never expected it to become the best romance game I've ever played.
It was really endearing to follow Cove's and MC's life throughout the 3 steps. The fact that there is so much customization that is then mentioned in several dialogues, the impecable way in which sexuality was handled, the relationship with both families... it's just brilliant.
I'm on my very late twenties and identify as DemiGray Ace but, even though I love romance, it's VERY difficult for me to find romance stories where I can actually relate to any of the characters (ironically, the ones where you can self insert are the ones where I can actually relate even less). Cove was an extremely pleasant surprise and a breath of fresh air. I could relate so much to so many of his feelings such as overthinking bad scenarios, his fear and indecisiveness of pursuing a romantic relationship both emotionally and physically, the guilt and sadness he feels about having to make others wait for him to be ready to experience certain things, the way he feels like sometimes he physically can't take steps forward but at the same time really wants to... all of that hit so close to home it made me tear up. It also made me really happy that I could customize the MC to be similar to myself, it made the experience all the more personal and endearing. I may not have had a romantic relationship yet, but this game really pampered me with how I wish it could be.
Thank you so much for making this game, it gave me a lot of warm and happy feelings. I lost count of all the butterflies I felt while I was playing and I'll probably play many times over <3
Really excited to see the remaining DLCs (Baxter has me really curious too) and Step 4!
Also, if it's alright, I wanted to make a little question: is Step 3 the last chance you have to romance Cove or can you also start a romance with him on Step 4?
Again, thank you so much for making such a wonderful game and I look forward to more Our Life content! I'm thinking I may even become a Patreon soon, hehe <3
Aw, thank you so much ;v;! It's lovely to hear you had such a nice time with it. And you will be able to start a romance with Cove in Step 4 if you want to wait until then to begin a romance/relationship with him.
This game looks amazing, but I’m having a problem. I successfully downloaded the game for the PC and got through character creation, but once I get past that, the game keeps freezing about one to two lines in. Any suggestions?
I'm sorry you're having trouble! If the game is suddenly crashing there's a few things it could be. Your firewall/virus scanner may force the game to stop then crash while playing. Turning your scanner off while installing/playing, seeing if the antivirus program needs an update, and/or finding a way to tell the scanner that Our Life is safe are ways to potentially fix the problem.
Crashing problems are also sometimes caused by issues with settings for your graphics card(s). Or you can try making the game easier to run by turning off animations and playing in a smaller window, since maybe the game is just struggling to run for some reason. I hope one of those helps!
If everything was free, none of it would exist. Then even the free base game couldn't be enjoyed by people because we wouldn't have been able to make Our Life in the first place. I'd maybe recommend wishing that at some point you'll have the few dollars needed to get a paid DLC rather than wishing that game devs don't get any support ^^;.
Here i am thinking the DLCs were really cheap and i would without hesitation pay way more, if you raised the prices. I'm still amazed that the full game is even free in the first place
I'm really glad you like it! Does the game say anything before it crashes? And do you have any type of virus scanner? Sometimes those refuse to let the game run properly because they don't trust it. Also, you can try renaming the apk file to not have any periods (having it be ourlifeapk instead of ourlife.apk). Removing those helped one person run the file more easily.
I'm sorry for that. Can you let me know how old the phone is? There are some models that are too old to properly run the full game, unfortunately. Also, are you downloading the file directly or through the Itch app, using the the Itch app can cause problems.
This is the full version! The full game with step 1-3 is completely free, with step 4 (kinda like one big epilogue which will also be free!) still in the making. It is optional to buy step 1 and step 2 dlcs (as well as other future dlcs), but you won't miss out anything from the main plot even if you choose not to!
I ended buying them anyway because it is just THAT good, but you don't necessarily have to and will have just as much fun! I hope this helps :))
I found something a little weird in step 3... I chose for Cove to be without his glasses, but in the CG after the ORCA event, he appears with glasses. Is it a glitch or something? thanks in advance
I've noticed little differences with the CGs, but glasses being there or not sounds like a very noticeable one. I always choose for him to have glasses, but I choose his updo with cartilage ear piercings and in the CGs he doesn't have the piercing.
I imagine they just haven't fully updated all the CGs to implement all the choices yet. Maybe think of the glasses as driving glasses? That way after ORCA it's like he just forgot to take them off, too.
I've finished step 2 (after impulsively buying the DLC in the middle of the night) and I'm currently in the middle of step 3! I can't wait for the release of the step 3 DLC!
10000/5, I would like to play this game for eternity, please and thank you
I'm usually into dark, angsty themes, but this game has wrecked me! It's so sweet and wholesome that it has revived my cold dead heart to a simpler time. Cove is just... god. The character development, the supportive family/friends (I LOVE Liz/Elizabeth/Lizzie), the dialogue is all god tier! I can't wait till I clock out so I can get the DLC. I'm way too invested in this game and Cove's development that I spent the better half of yesterday trying to figure out why I didn't try this game earlier. Devs, you all are literally the best. Thank you for this game. This is the content that I didn't know I needed.
I never comment really. But I have to tell you this and I really hope you read it! This game hits home for me so much! I found the game on Steam by accident and tried it out, since free. After only 10minutes of playing, I bought both dlcs. After a few days, I bought everything for my phone again. (I hope every lil cent helps?!) So I can play on my way to work. allthought the dlcs overwrite each other on my phone for some reason.
I am part adopted (my dad left as soon as he found out about me) and as my mom found a new husband, he adopted me. I teared up as that section came on, since my parents handled it similar and where always open about my adoption.
Also Cove Is a lot like my fiance, who is on the autistic spectrum. He is (over-)thinking a lot, too and had problems with romantic and physical stuff in the beginning. Cove reacts so similar that I fell right at home. Iam not saying that Cove is canon on that spectrum, just that he reminds me of the love of my life. I can't thank you enough for this revolutionary game and I hope that it will change the visual novel industry. One day I want to support you on patreon.
Also I hope with time there will be more walktrhoughsheets. I see a lot of interesting dialog which I yet hope to find.
Thank you for bringing me home. I sincerely hope you read this.
I just had to say, that there are sooo many choices and outcomes that I thoroughly enjoy!
While playing, I personally made my mc optimistic and considerate to a fault. At the moment, I just wanted to play around with my options and thought "hey, why not make her cheery exterior falter a bit?" It was then that I came across a scene where she was told that it was okay to not be okay and it just hits close to home. I had to admit, I ended up bawling at the scene.
I adore that no matter what choices you make, the people around the mc will completely and unconditionally love and care for them. It's incredibly heartwarming and I cannot express how much I adore this game. So thank you so much for making this. Thank you so much for all your hard work!!
p.s. I bought both of the DLCs available as well as the soundtrack and I'm excited for your future releases!
Ive been playing this game literally everyday, but with different ways to confess, exploring options I havent made, make Cove confess instead, etc. I am in love with this game like it truly makes me happy. Im a senior in highschool so some things are relatable, but omg I cannot wait for step 4! Just imagining it already has me so hype!!! Im so glad I stumbled upon ths game and just its whole concept is mesmerizing. Thank you for this wonderful creation! <3
Hi! I've played through this game three times with the DLCs and everything already, and I'm OBSESSED. I just have one teeny tiny question :) is there a time estimate for when Step 4 is coming out? Mid 2021?
When opening character creation on Android the keyboard will remain up till you press enter (you can backspace to delete the default name and write whatever you like, then enter). It's confusing...
On my phone, renaming the APK file to ourlife.apk was needed for it to be recognised as a valid application. (Maybe it's the period in the full filename?) Just a heads-up :)
Hey! This is my first time playing a visual novel game and I'm so glad that this was the first story to shape my experience! The story concept is truly amazing as well as the relationship with the various characters. I'm trying to get the scene where the MC and Cove kiss at the very end. I've got the pajama shirt Cove lent to the MC in Escapade. During the camping trip, I'm pretty sure there would have been a scene b/w the MC and Cove in the loft? Is there something else I should do before all that? Thanks!
Thank you <3! To kiss Cove all you need to do is be at Crush level during Step 2 and then during the end of Step 2 decide to confess your crush to Cove then the option to kiss will come up. Or if you call Cove over to the loft at night during Road Trip, ask him to get in the loft with you, and then try to kiss him there, the scene at the end will play out differently. Cove will already have an idea of your feelings so you'll just get to decide if you want to kiss him or not without extra choices first. Good luck ^^
Hi! I'm just wondering, but is Derek trans? I kinda feel like he is, coz I lowkey STAN him (I'm a short darkskined FtM dude, so you can just imagine XD)
Hi! I've been playing VNs on itch for years now and I finally decided to make an account for this game. I've been playing this game since the very beginning in the early demo stage and every few months I play it again to see if anything's changed. I was so so happy to see that it's finally been released and I binged it in one night. I just finished it and god I love it so much.
The characters are all so unique and loveable, even the ones who're meant to be disliked. I really wish we'd been able to see more of Jeremy and Shiloh in this game though! I played XOXO Droplets after seeing the demo of this game and I know that we meet them there but I just feel bad for MC and her sister for not knowing anything. Also the little shopping trip, I don't understand why MC got angry seeing as how she got to spend time with Cove and get some cool food.
But other than that everything was perfect. Cove was incredible, and the pace at which he moved was perfect and was so similar to my feelings in real life. I actually don't think that I've ever felt that connected to a VN romance guy before.
Also the care that you guys took with making sure that we felt comfortable with our character didn't go unnoticed :) It was really sweet and showed how much you guys cared about the players!
Just a really big thank you :) I was struggling a little with work overload today and going through life with Cove and company brightened my day so much.
I'm kinda rambling but I've never posted a comment here so please don't mind, I'm just so happy with how it turned out. The length difference between the demo and this version was astounding. I was expecting maybe one more summer but this more than exceeded my expectations :D
This game is 100% going on my recommend list (along with Lake of Voices which I just realized is also made by you guys :o) really just thank you all so much, this has really brightened so many peoples' lives <3
I'm so glad I found this game. Believe it or not it's helped me through some dark times. I almost wish I could jump into this reality. A big thanks to the creators for investing your time in this game. <3
Sorry if this has been asked before, but what exactly does clothing type mean/do? I've been playing since the early builds of the demo and I never really understood what having none, all, or any of these options (along with accessories) mean for the main character.
I mean, I can guess it's about preferences, but I've never seen it have any effect on gameplay or dialogue.
They only change very minor things right now. We hope to add more alterations for those selections as time goes on, there's just a lot of choices that tweak the game's script and we had to choose which parts to focus on before the release. So some parts didn't end up doing as much as other parts, aha.
I followed the development of this game from pretty early on, and today, I finally finished my first playthrough! I am truly in love with this game. It hits so close to home that I nearly cried when I was nearing the end. Each character had something I could relate to, and the fact that I could respond to situations in my own way meant the world to me. The LGBTQ+ elements were also very important to me. I tried to play the game as close to my real life as possible, which meant presenting as female in the first step. When I changed my pronouns and such from step two and onward, and I was met with love and support from the characters, I felt overjoyed. It was real. It was something I needed. So thank you! Waiting for this game was one of the best decisions I've made.
straight up did not process that this was made by the person that made xoxo droplets. literally went "huh... this shiloh character seems awfully familiar...." smh
I finished Direct Fondness and then Direct Love, having no idea they were different! It was such a huge surprise and I love how the DLCs added more onto the moments. This is such a wonderfully made game where your choices matter so much more and a great self-insert. Both I do not mind when it's not so in depth in the genre, it is still so enjoyable. But, dang, the fact that it is and there's still more to come is so exciting!
I subbed to the patreon since I wanted to see the WIPs and previews, and that 18+ content. I really liked how Cove developed so much and I want to thank the team so much for this and I cannot BELIEVE that it is free with some DLC add ons. I've recommended this game to many people and it will be at the very top to introduce people of this genre even though there is only one romantic interest right now, it's so highly customizable in terms of personality and the amount of choices. I'll stop rambling now and say thank you so very much for all the hard work and creating this lovely story. I can't wait to read the rest especially Dexter and Baxter!
This game was really great! I'm a little confused about something, though.

I'm ace, so I played my character that way too, and I didn't really understand why Cove jumped out of bed and was really nervous, as my MC wasn't interested in doing anything but lying there. Was he uncomfortable with cuddling? Or was he nervous about something else, and I didn't read between the lines properly?
For context: I played until he confessed his feelings (very end of step 3), they started a relationship, and then that night we slept in the same room, but Cove insisted I get into the bed with him and not lie on the floor. The only thing I can think of is that he was physically 🍆 "excited" and wasn't comfortable with that? I wonder if I missed a conversation by not getting into a relationship with him earlier that would help it make more sense (the v/o said something like "I always do this," but he'd never run away from MC before. We shared the loft and snuggled on the camping trip, and he slept on the floor at his mom's house). He also kept saying "thanks for waiting for me," but my MC was even more hesitant to express romantic interest and showed zero sexual desires, so I don't really know why he thought MC would want him to move faster. Maybe the dialogue is just meant to be open to various interpretations of different MCs' desires?
[/spoilers]
Aside from my being clueless about that one aspect, I thought the game did a really good job of allowing you to shape MC and their relationship with the people around them. It felt so interactive and personalized!
Cove is very nervous about pursing romance, in terms of the physical and emotional side. You can interpret how much is physical based on what you'd be comfortable with. But no matter what, he's never able to just like someone and start being with them. He has to go through a big process for every step.
It takes Cove until very end of summer in their last year of non-adulthood for him to finally admit that he likes the MC that way, and he almost doesn't do it. He stalls at first. And in that confession he explains how trying to change things and move forward scares him. Inviting you to the bed is him trying to be more confident and get passed that, but he ends up almost backing out again because of how strongly his own feelings impact him. He thanks the MC for waiting because you do have to wait for him to do anything. He's liked the MC for a minimum of multiple months and potentially as long as several years and is only now expressing it. Even if the MC didn't mind or really think about it, he knows he took a long time to get to it and he's self-conscious about it. I hope that makes more sense!
do my dear eyes decieve?! or is the game finally out of demo?!!!! you don't know how long i've waited for this! i am once again excited to play and meet cove again!

I'm sorry for the trouble. Are you using Mac, Windows, or Linux? And is it build 1.0 or 1.1 (you can see the number on the main menu).
Windows, and 1.1.

You can have him as a love interest, just not yet, Baxter and Derek will be romance options as DLC, probably to be released next year ;)
Hey there!
Thank you for letting us know! I haven't heard of that error before. We'll look into it. I'm glad you're enjoying things despite that ^^
Hi! I love Our Life: Beginnings & Always so much.
It downloads around 10% and then says "Download failed".
By the way, I'm sorry if I couldn't describe it completely in my first comment, English is not my first language.
I have heard of Androids sometimes having errors like that, it tends to because of the cache on the phone or something rather than the file you're trying to download. Here's one thread trying to solve it, but if you search "Android Download Failed" you can find more info on it!

Yes, I download both the dlcs but only one of them works.
Wow. Just wow.

And you will be able to start a romance with Cove in Step 4 if you want to wait until then to begin a romance/relationship with him.
can't wait for step 3 DLC & step 4 🥰💛
Lol, i wish all the dlc steps in step 1 to step 3 would be free lol
If everything was free, none of it would exist. Then even the free base game couldn't be enjoyed by people because we wouldn't have been able to make Our Life in the first place. I'd maybe recommend wishing that at some point you'll have the few dollars needed to get a paid DLC rather than wishing that game devs don't get any support ^^;.
Here i am thinking the DLCs were really cheap and i would without hesitation pay way more, if you raised the prices. I'm still amazed that the full game is even free in the first place
this is such a nice game, i really like how characters can have scars and acne, but text to speech doesnt work for the mc's choices
Hello there! I absolutely LOVE this game, I've played since it was on the demo stage.
But I have a problem: When I download it on android the .apk file downloads just fine, but when I open it it crashes. What can I do?
I'm really glad you like it! Does the game say anything before it crashes? And do you have any type of virus scanner? Sometimes those refuse to let the game run properly because they don't trust it. Also, you can try renaming the apk file to not have any periods (having it be ourlifeapk instead of ourlife.apk). Removing those helped one person run the file more easily.
I do no't have a virus scanner, so it isn't that.
I've tried renaming the file. When I do that id downlads the game ok, but when I open the game it just crashes, with no messag
I'm sorry for that. Can you let me know how old the phone is? There are some models that are too old to properly run the full game, unfortunately. Also, are you downloading the file directly or through the Itch app, using the the Itch app can cause problems.
I think the phone is from 2016, unfortunately.
I downladed it directly. Maybe if I download it from the itch.io app it will work
I had another phone, from 2014 and it worked there
Hm, is this the full version now? :D
Thank you :)
This rlly helps
I found something a little weird in step 3... I chose for Cove to be without his glasses, but in the CG after the ORCA event, he appears with glasses. Is it a glitch or something? thanks in advance
edit: same for the CG in the car during "drive"
Wait u gotta buy step 1 until step 3? Aw man..
you made zero sense
what? no of course not... where did I say you have to buy anything lol
yeah probably
I just saw how many hours I have on steam and... Wow... I like to pretend I forgot to close the game.
Mid 2021?
Thank you <3! And yeah, mid-2021 is probably a good estimate but we're not 100% sure yet.
Good luck ^^
god im so gay for cove
Hi! I'm just wondering, but is Derek trans? I kinda feel like he is, coz I lowkey STAN him (I'm a short darkskined FtM dude, so you can just imagine XD)
Totes excited for his future romance DLC!
I'm glad you like him! Derek isn't trans, but there is a trans character in the game. Terri is AFAB, but comes out as a trans man in Step 4.
I knew they had the same developer and still somehow didn’t process who Jeremy and Shiloh were until like a day later!

Thank you!
Help, I've fallen and I can't get up!!
oh my goodness. I love Cove so much.
1. Ace representation- on point! thank you!
2. I just want this to be my life aaaaa
I'll come back with a more coherent review once I finish the VN :)
Thank you so much for this, its a life i always wanted and needed, if only it was real life, i really cant wait for the next step and dlc!!! <33
This game is so wonderfully comforting and it fills me with joy
do my dear eyes decieve?! or is the game finally out of demo?!!!! you don't know how long i've waited for this! i am once again excited to play and meet cove again!
