The story concept is truly amazing as well as the relationship with the various characters. I'm trying to get the scene where the MC and Cove kiss at the very end. I've got the pajama shirt Cove lent to the MC in Escapade. During the camping trip, I'm pretty sure there would have been a scene b/w the MC and Cove in the loft? Is there something else I should do before all that? Thanks!
Thank you <3! To kiss Cove all you need to do is be at Crush level during Step 2 and then during the end of Step 2 decide to confess your crush to Cove then the option to kiss will come up. Or if you call Cove over to the loft at night during Road Trip, ask him to get in the loft with you, and then try to kiss him there, the scene at the end will play out differently. Cove will already have an idea of your feelings so you'll just get to decide if you want to kiss him or not without extra choices first. Good luck ^^

Hi! I've been playing VNs on itch for years now and I finally decided to make an account for this game. I've been playing this game since the very beginning in the early demo stage and every few months I play it again to see if anything's changed. I was so so happy to see that it's finally been released and I binged it in one night. I just finished it and god I love it so much.
The characters are all so unique and loveable, even the ones who're meant to be disliked. I really wish we'd been able to see more of Jeremy and Shiloh in this game though! I played XOXO Droplets after seeing the demo of this game and I know that we meet them there but I just feel bad for MC and her sister for not knowing anything. Also the little shopping trip, I don't understand why MC got angry seeing as how she got to spend time with Cove and get some cool food.
But other than that everything was perfect. Cove was incredible, and the pace at which he moved was perfect and was so similar to my feelings in real life. I actually don't think that I've ever felt that connected to a VN romance guy before.
Also the care that you guys took with making sure that we felt comfortable with our character didn't go unnoticed :) It was really sweet and showed how much you guys cared about the players!
Just a really big thank you :) I was struggling a little with work overload today and going through life with Cove and company brightened my day so much.
I'm kinda rambling but I've never posted a comment here so please don't mind, I'm just so happy with how it turned out. The length difference between the demo and this version was astounding. I was expecting maybe one more summer but this more than exceeded my expectations :D
This game is 100% going on my recommend list (along with Lake of Voices which I just realized is also made by you guys :o) really just thank you all so much, this has really brightened so many peoples' lives <3

Sorry if this has been asked before, but what exactly does clothing type mean/do? I've been playing since the early builds of the demo and I never really understood what having none, all, or any of these options (along with accessories) mean for the main character.
I mean, I can guess it's about preferences, but I've never seen it have any effect on gameplay or dialogue.
They only change very minor things right now. We hope to add more alterations for those selections as time goes on, there's just a lot of choices that tweak the game's script and we had to choose which parts to focus on before the release. So some parts didn't end up doing as much as other parts, aha.
I followed the development of this game from pretty early on, and today, I finally finished my first playthrough! I am truly in love with this game. It hits so close to home that I nearly cried when I was nearing the end. Each character had something I could relate to, and the fact that I could respond to situations in my own way meant the world to me. The LGBTQ+ elements were also very important to me. I tried to play the game as close to my real life as possible, which meant presenting as female in the first step. When I changed my pronouns and such from step two and onward, and I was met with love and support from the characters, I felt overjoyed. It was real. It was something I needed. So thank you! Waiting for this game was one of the best decisions I've made.

I finished Direct Fondness and then Direct Love, having no idea they were different! It was such a huge surprise and I love how the DLCs added more onto the moments. This is such a wonderfully made game where your choices matter so much more and a great self-insert. Both I do not mind when it's not so in depth in the genre, it is still so enjoyable. But, dang, the fact that it is and there's still more to come is so exciting!
I subbed to the patreon since I wanted to see the WIPs and previews, and that 18+ content. I really liked how Cove developed so much and I want to thank the team so much for this and I cannot BELIEVE that it is free with some DLC add ons. I've recommended this game to many people and it will be at the very top to introduce people of this genre even though there is only one romantic interest right now, it's so highly customizable in terms of personality and the amount of choices. I'll stop rambling now and say thank you so very much for all the hard work and creating this lovely story. I can't wait to read the rest especially Dexter and Baxter!
This game was really great! I'm a little confused about something, though.

I'm ace, so I played my character that way too, and I didn't really understand why Cove jumped out of bed and was really nervous, as my MC wasn't interested in doing anything but lying there. Was he uncomfortable with cuddling? Or was he nervous about something else, and I didn't read between the lines properly?
For context: I played until he confessed his feelings (very end of step 3), they started a relationship, and then that night we slept in the same room, but Cove insisted I get into the bed with him and not lie on the floor. The only thing I can think of is that he was physically 🍆 "excited" and wasn't comfortable with that? I wonder if I missed a conversation by not getting into a relationship with him earlier that would help it make more sense (the v/o said something like "I always do this," but he'd never run away from MC before. We shared the loft and snuggled on the camping trip, and he slept on the floor at his mom's house). He also kept saying "thanks for waiting for me," but my MC was even more hesitant to express romantic interest and showed zero sexual desires, so I don't really know why he thought MC would want him to move faster. Maybe the dialogue is just meant to be open to various interpretations of different MCs' desires?

Aside from my being clueless about that one aspect, I thought the game did a really good job of allowing you to shape MC and their relationship with the people around them. It felt so interactive and personalized!
Cove is very nervous about pursing romance, in terms of the physical and emotional side. You can interpret how much is physical based on what you'd be comfortable with. But no matter what, he's never able to just like someone and start being with them. He has to go through a big process for every step.
It takes Cove until very end of summer in their last year of non-adulthood for him to finally admit that he likes the MC that way, and he almost doesn't do it. He stalls at first. And in that confession he explains how trying to change things and move forward scares him. Inviting you to the bed is him trying to be more confident and get passed that, but he ends up almost backing out again because of how strongly his own feelings impact him. He thanks the MC for waiting because you do have to wait for him to do anything. He's liked the MC for a minimum of multiple months and potentially as long as several years and is only now expressing it. Even if the MC didn't mind or really think about it, he knows he took a long time to get to it and he's self-conscious about it. I hope that makes more sense!

Another comment from me :D Heyy, i was wondering if you would consider any other event? We all love the summer, but would it be possible to try another festivity? Such as Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc i can see religious reasons being an obsticle, but i hope that you could consider it? I just really love the game, and i really want to see more and i loved the earlier teen days when the loves were barely starting to bloom and i'd love to see everyone's reactions, feelings, etc on other days, perhaps some more birthdays, such as Cove's, or the MC's? I'm just a random greedy guy, but could you give it even just a slight consideration? I will still love the game and everything about it even if, you cant. Thank you!
Oh my god- I love this game!!! It helps for passing time and needing a little laugh at some points in life. Unfortunately it doesn't work for me. I followed your instructions, but I cannot hear the voiced names. Then I tried to copy it into the ->games -> voices folder. it also didn't work. It is not a disaster. just a bit pity. Now I wait for the next DLCs. Have a nice 2. Advent.
Maybe the files weren't properly unzipped. Can you tell me how you extracted them? And all the files and folders would go into the games folder, putting them into the voices folder wouldn't work.
I downloaded the files again to make sure. For explanation: I play the game on a windows PC. I unzipped it with winrar and copied the rpy files into the game folder. Then I copied the three voice folders into the game folder too. Well, like I wrote, it is a pity but not a desaster. Your game is still amazing.
Could you potentially use Steam to play the game? That has a better installation system that might work out for you. Either way, I'm sorry for the trouble. I'm glad it's not too disappointing.
Before I played until Step 2 ending, it was amazing, i dont use it for Itch anymore, i use steam. Its so meaningful to me, and im thankful to play every second, i decided to get the game, voice pack, and both DLC, and its worth every single damn penny, I seriously cant wait for part 4 and the next DLC, hope the best for anything you guys do. And thank you so much, the only critque is that the distance between steps are so huge, [Spoilers] I wish i could've said bye to shiloh when he left, or had the first day at school again, but its still one of the greatest games/novel/etc i have ever played, no high end action game matches this beauty. THEY ARE NOT DOING THIS. There will be ONE 18+ moment, which will be released on Patreon (and ONLY on Patreon) as a stand-alone Moment. They will work on it at some point, probably after finishing the Step 3 DLC. But the game itself is family-friendly, and they will not be including anything you're asking for as part of it.
Eek! I have a little bit of bad news :( I tried to re-download OL (on a macOS) and it said that I couldn't open it bc it wasn't able to scan it for malware(???) I've never had this problem before with this game before and I'm worried I'll never be able to play it again😭 I realllyyy don't want that to happen, so I need help! also with the voice DLC... does anyone have any tips on how to install it? I'm having a very hard time 🥺
That's a false positive, it happens pretty randomly. If you look up "IDP.Generic" virus reports you can find articles about how some Python (the programming language we use) files end up being considered threatening when it's not dangerous, if that helps it seem less worrying.
All I can suggest is that you turn off the malware while installing and playing, looking up to see if there's a way you can tell your malware that you trust the file, or checking to see if your malware is in need up an update. I hope you're able to get your virus scanner to stop with that.
If you're getting the message that says "macOS cannot verify that this app is free from malware," you just need to click through some extra steps to fix it. Click on the question mark in the bottom left corner, which should open up a panel that says "Protect your Mac from malware." Then click "Open the General pane for me" which is in blue text under the first item in the numbered list. Press cancel on the screen that has the "cannot verify that this app is free from malware." Then, a message should pop up on the General pane , where you can select "open anyway." Basically, macOS is really suspicious of your software and you just have to jump through a bunch of hoops to open it anyway.
Ahh! I purchased the dlc for step 2 for android but when I try to download it it gets to 400mbs and then fails and says 'Forbidden' and that I don't have permission from the server to download/access the files or that the server isn't responding. 🥺 I've tried several times and it always happens. I don't have any kind of anti-virus or anything on my phone and it downloaded the regular game just fine a few days ago.
Edit: I cleared the cache of the already installed app and deleted the previous apk file for the game and it suddenly worked!
this game is so wonderful that i want to translate it into my language and make more people play it. Anyway, I'm loving the game. I've been playing things like Collar x Malice and Café Enchanté, but none of these two involved me and made me as happy as that game. He resembles Princess Maker but without the complicated part of having to upgrade status. And more cool. I am delighted with the art, and with the child Shiloh, I think it was one of the things I liked the most. And I identified a lot with Cole, I was just like it was as a child, always in my corner. Oh and he and the characters are so cute, and the mothers are amazing. I loved this game and congratulations for the incredible work.
It seems that there are quite a few people having trouble getting the DLC work with the OL Build 1.1. Do you guys have any idea when this would be repaired?

I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you mean. Which DLCs and what build for the DLC? There are a few rare cases of the DLCs getting confused on Android, if that's what you mean. But it isn't for most people and the Windows/Mac/Linux DLCs don't seem to have any problems, as long as they're properly installed.

Edit : I can't seem to pass on the adolescent phase somehow ? Everytime I click on "End of the summer", the script begins, and at the time Lizzie is going back to the house, the game abruptly comes back to the menu... Would there be any way to solve this problem ?
That's very strange. I'm not sure what's happening. Maybe try uninstalling and reinstalling the game to see if something was missing from the build you have. And is this your first file or have you played an older version of the game? Maybe there's a problem with older data impacting things. Hopefully we can figure out what's going on.
I tried to unistall and reinstall the game several times already, but it didn't change anything... I indeed played the demo version before the full game, so it may be the problem !
Have you tried starting a brand new file? Maybe something just went wrong with that file and there isn't a way to save it. If you're still unable to move forward even if you've tried with a brand new file, definitely let us know.
Are you using build 1.1 or 1.0 (it's shown in the bottom corner of the main menu)? I might have an idea of what could have gone wrong, depending on which version you're on.
I'm afraid there's not really anywhere else we can easily upload Android game files. Can you tell us what the problem you're having is? Maybe we can fix it here.
Each time I try to download the game it keeps giving me an error. It could be something wrong with my connection, but I'm only having that problem here on itchio 😅😅.
You'll need to re-download and add the DLC rpys files to your new 1.1 folder. Or take the files you already have from the 1.0 folder and move them over to 1.1. Just 1.1 won't the DLC events if you don't put them in there like you did for 1.0. I'm sorry for the confusion on that.
This game is sooo good but I have to ask because I'm a little confused! Does the comfort/interest levels change by themselves through the choices you've made or do you have to manually change them yourself? Because I'm afraid I accidentally put myself in the friendzone at the start and no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get out of "Nervous Indifference." 😖 I need to know if I'm playing this wrong and if I need to try out different methods, or if I'm simply missing something!
oh lol, you manually change them yourself. during the choice screen you should be able to drag the sliders up and then that dynamic stays for the entire step, regardless of your choices. (the choices instead work on developing cove/your mc as characters)

I just wanna say, I played this game while it was still in the demo stage and I've never been so incredibly pumped for an indie game to be released! Imagine my joy when I realized the game had come out :) I bought all the DLCs off the bat, and I do not regret it. In a way, this game made me feel like I had reclaimed my childhood, with a supportive and close family, a bunch of great friends and even a healthy first relationship! I don't know how you guys did it, but this game is all but perfect when it comes to simulating that growing-up experience. I actually wanted to act realistically angsty and grumpy as I was when I was a kid, but I just couldn't with how endearing all the characters and my family were.
Thank you so much for this experience, GB Patch. I'll definitely be signing on as a patron once I finish my first playthrough!
Yeh, impossible not to want to do the best you possibly can to make Cove happy isn't it? You would have to have a heart of stone not to :D It is pretty amazing how they make a 2D cartoon drawing and a few lignes of dialog so real and so endearing. It is creative genius. :)
I'm a little sad. In the demo they had the name 'Alex' there and I was super excited to hear it in the finished game but it's gone now. Is there a reason or...?
Still absolutely love the game, this doesn't take away my immersion or anything. This game is literally crack to me. I love Cove SO much and I can't wait to marry him!
Also as someone who is confused and still figuring out their gender identity can I just say that Cove's eagerness to help out and the fact that he just accepts whatever the MC needs to do to feel good about themselves is just so...freaking...amazing. Still cry every time I decide to make my character non-binary or trans. Love this game so much! No other game can even attempt to be as amazing as this imo.
I had been waiting for over a year for this game to be released and the wait was really worth it.
This game really has a special place in my heart, the characters are all terribly endearing, the setting is soothing and there was a real work on the choice options so that you could shape up the MC and your relationship with Cove however you wanted. I really had the feeling that I was the author of my own story. I was completely emotionally involved with the characters and events going on and I even laughed out loud and teared up a few times. Anyways, this game feels so realistic yet so idealistic, it was a real breath of fresh air and I'd recommand it to anyone.
Its a great game and I absolutely love Cove. However, the step 1 dlcs stopped working after the first playthrough. Not sure how to fix. The first time I played through step 1 i didnt have step 2 installed yet so maybe something to do with that?
Are you on Android? Sometimes the Step 2 DLC will replace the Step 1 DLC when you install it rather than combining. Reinstalling the Step 1 DLC can help, but we're looking into why it's happening. I'm sorry for the trouble.

I'm glad you like him! Derek isn't trans, but there is a trans character in the game. Terri is AFAB, but comes out as a trans man in Step 4.

Unfortunately it doesn't work for me. I followed your instructions, but I cannot hear the voiced names. Then I tried to copy it into the ->games -> voices folder. it also didn't work. It is not a disaster. just a bit pity. Now I wait for the next DLCs. Have a nice 2. Advent.
Maybe the files weren't properly unzipped. Can you tell me how you extracted them? And all the files and folders would go into the games folder, putting them into the voices folder wouldn't work.
I downloaded the files again to make sure. For explanation: I play the game on a windows PC. I unzipped it with winrar and copied the rpy files into the game folder. Then I copied the three voice folders into the game folder too. Well, like I wrote, it is a pity but not a desaster. Your game is still amazing.
Could you potentially use Steam to play the game? That has a better installation system that might work out for you. Either way, I'm sorry for the trouble. I'm glad it's not too disappointing.
Before I played until Step 2 ending, it was amazing, i dont use it for Itch anymore, i use steam. Its so meaningful to me, and im thankful to play every second, i decided to get the game, voice pack, and both DLC, and its worth every single damn penny, I seriously cant wait for part 4 and the next DLC, hope the best for anything you guys do. And thank you so much, the only critque is that the distance between steps are so huge, [Spoilers] I wish i could've said bye to shiloh when he left, or had the first day at school again, but its still one of the greatest games/novel/etc i have ever played, no high end action game matches this beauty. THEY ARE NOT DOING THIS. There will be ONE 18+ moment, which will be released on Patreon (and ONLY on Patreon) as a stand-alone Moment. They will work on it at some point, probably after finishing the Step 3 DLC. But the game itself is family-friendly, and they will not be including anything you're asking for as part of it.

Eek! I have a little bit of bad news :( I tried to re-download OL (on a macOS) and it said that I couldn't open it bc it wasn't able to scan it for malware(???) I've never had this problem before with this game before and I'm worried I'll never be able to play it again😭 I realllyyy don't want that to happen, so I need help! also with the voice DLC... does anyone have any tips on how to install it? I'm having a very hard time 🥺
That's a false positive, it happens pretty randomly. If you look up "IDP.Generic" virus reports you can find articles about how some Python (the programming language we use) files end up being considered threatening when it's not dangerous, if that helps it seem less worrying.
All I can suggest is that you turn off the malware while installing and playing, looking up to see if there's a way you can tell your malware that you trust the file, or checking to see if your malware is in need up an update. I hope you're able to get your virus scanner to stop with that.
If you're getting the message that says "macOS cannot verify that this app is free from malware," you just need to click through some extra steps to fix it. Click on the question mark in the bottom left corner, which should open up a panel that says "Protect your Mac from malware." Then click "Open the General pane for me" which is in blue text under the first item in the numbered list. Press cancel on the screen that has the "cannot verify that this app is free from malware." Then, a message should pop up on the General pane , where you can select "open anyway." Basically, macOS is really suspicious of your software and you just have to jump through a bunch of hoops to open it anyway.
Ahh! I purchased the dlc for step 2 for android but when I try to download it it gets to 400mbs and then fails and says 'Forbidden' and that I don't have permission from the server to download/access the files or that the server isn't responding. 🥺 I've tried several times and it always happens. I don't have any kind of anti-virus or anything on my phone and it downloaded the regular game just fine a few days ago.
Edit: I cleared the cache of the already installed app and deleted the previous apk file for the game and it suddenly worked!

I'm in love with this game
this game is so wonderful that i want to translate it into my language and make more people play it. Anyway, I'm loving the game. I've been playing things like Collar x Malice and Café Enchanté, but none of these two involved me and made me as happy as that game. He resembles Princess Maker but without the complicated part of having to upgrade status. And more cool.
I am delighted with the art, and with the child Shiloh, I think it was one of the things I liked the most. And I identified a lot with Cole, I was just like it was as a child, always in my corner. Oh and he and the characters are so cute, and the mothers are amazing. I loved this game and congratulations for the incredible work.
It seems that there are quite a few people having trouble getting the DLC work with the OL Build 1.1. Do you guys have any idea when this would be repaired?

I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you mean. Which DLCs and what build for the DLC? There are a few rare cases of the DLCs getting confused on Android, if that's what you mean. But it isn't for most people and the Windows/Mac/Linux DLCs don't seem to have any problems, as long as they're properly installed.
Looks like I just forgot to extract the DLC files into the file for the new build, lol. It seems to be working fine now!

Edit : I can't seem to pass on the adolescent phase somehow ? Everytime I click on "End of the summer", the script begins, and at the time Lizzie is going back to the house, the game abruptly comes back to the menu... Would there be any way to solve this problem ?
That's very strange. I'm not sure what's happening. Maybe try uninstalling and reinstalling the game to see if something was missing from the build you have. And is this your first file or have you played an older version of the game? Maybe there's a problem with older data impacting things. Hopefully we can figure out what's going on.
I tried to unistall and reinstall the game several times already, but it didn't change anything... I indeed played the demo version before the full game, so it may be the problem !
Just playing the demo shouldn't cause a problem, unless you're using old save files from the demo as well...
Have you tried starting a brand new file? Maybe something just went wrong with that file and there isn't a way to save it. If you're still unable to move forward even if you've tried with a brand new file, definitely let us know.

Are you using build 1.1 or 1.0 (it's shown in the bottom corner of the main menu)? I might have an idea of what could have gone wrong, depending on which version you're on.

I'm also having problems with the game crashing when selecting DLC Moments, on Windows. I updated to 1.1, 1.0 is still working. :(

You'll need to re-download and add the DLC rpys files to your new 1.1 folder. Or take the files you already have from the 1.0 folder and move them over to 1.1. Just 1.1 won't the DLC events if you don't put them in there like you did for 1.0. I'm sorry for the confusion on that.

This game is sooo good but I have to ask because I'm a little confused! Does the comfort/interest levels change by themselves through the choices you've made or do you have to manually change them yourself? Because I'm afraid I accidentally put myself in the friendzone at the start and no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get out of "Nervous Indifference." 😖 I need to know if I'm playing this wrong and if I need to try out different methods, or if I'm simply missing something!
oh lol, you manually change them yourself. during the choice screen you should be able to drag the sliders up and then that dynamic stays for the entire step, regardless of your choices. (the choices instead work on developing cove/your mc as characters)

I just wanna say, I played this game while it was still in the demo stage and I've never been so incredibly pumped for an indie game to be released! Imagine my joy when I realized the game had come out :) I bought all the DLCs off the bat, and I do not regret it. In a way, this game made me feel like I had reclaimed my childhood, with a supportive and close family, a bunch of great friends and even a healthy first relationship! I don't know how you guys did it, but this game is all but perfect when it comes to simulating that growing-up experience. I actually wanted to act realistically angsty and grumpy as I was when I was a kid, but I just couldn't with how endearing all the characters and my family were.

Yeh, impossible not to want to do the best you possibly can to make Cove happy isn't it? You would have to have a heart of stone not to :D It is pretty amazing how they make a 2D cartoon drawing and a few lignes of dialog so real and so endearing. It is creative genius. :)

Still absolutely love the game, this doesn't take away my immersion or anything. This game is literally crack to me. I love Cove SO much and I can't wait to marry him!
Also as someone who is confused and still figuring out their gender identity can I just say that Cove's eagerness to help out and the fact that he just accepts whatever the MC needs to do to feel good about themselves is just so...freaking...amazing. Still cry every time I decide to make my character non-binary or trans. Love this game so much! No other game can even attempt to be as amazing as this imo.

I had been waiting for over a year for this game to be released and the wait was really worth it.
This game really has a special place in my heart, the characters are all terribly endearing, the setting is soothing and there was a real work on the choice options so that you could shape up the MC and your relationship with Cove however you wanted. I really had the feeling that I was the author of my own story. I was completely emotionally involved with the characters and events going on and I even laughed out loud and teared up a few times. Anyways, this game feels so realistic yet so idealistic, it was a real breath of fresh air and I'd recommand it to anyone.

Its a great game and I absolutely love Cove. However, the step 1 dlcs stopped working after the first playthrough. Not sure how to fix. The first time I played through step 1 i didnt have step 2 installed yet so maybe something to do with that?
Are you on Android? Sometimes the Step 2 DLC will replace the Step 1 DLC when you install it rather than combining. Reinstalling the Step 1 DLC can help, but we're looking into why it's happening. I'm sorry for the trouble.
