ummm I almost finished Step 3 and I was amazed again and again. I think there's no other game that gives high freedom and has such a variety of routes and choices, at least I've never seen one. So may I ask...generally when will Step 4 be released and will it still be free?

(+2)(-1)

Thank you :D! Step 4 will be coming out likely mid-2021 and it will be free.

Oh aaand another thing. I chose Cove to be without glasses at the beginning of step 3, and his sprite has no glasses, but the CG scenes I have met so far all showed him with glasses. When I go to the main menu and check the gallery I find the CGs without glasses again. I figure this might be some kind of bug so here I am again. Sorry for bothering!

Thanks!

(+3)

I just finished all the steps and i ended up crying, because it is such a beautiful game and it makes you feel like you really grew up with Cove. It was especially amazing to see how Cove developed over the years and how he grew more comfortable in expressing his feelings

(+2)

Kickstarter backer here, and can I just say, I'm really, really pleased with the results. I'm non-binary and trans, and I can't begin to express how happy I was to have a choice of pronouns, to have my character's gender be treated as a perfectly normal thing to be, and to hear Cove saying my name. And m-spec and a-spec representation! I'm floored.

Teensy-tiniest of nitpicks - as someone born and raised in Hawai'i, adding pineapple to chicken doesn't make it Hawaiian. I'd be happy to provide culturally appropriate suggestions if you ever want to update it.

But honestly, that's the only thing I could possibly complain about after hours of play. This game is so full of heart, and of care and respect for the player, and it shows. Thank you.

(+1)

Thank you! I'm really happy it lived up to expectations after the long development. And players are welcome to report errors/give suggestions :].

Months later I still love this game and all the DLC's, I come back and replay it when I need something calm and warm to play.

Potential suggestion for a replacement dish for pineapple chicken - chicken or squid luau. Squid is more popular, but chicken is friendlier to less adventurous eaters. Either dish is protein cooked in a creamy stew of coconut milk and lots of taro leaves. chicken luau

Oh my gosh, this was a beautiful bittersweet experience. I played it all throughout the night, and honestly I loved it a lot. It felt so detailed, and at 3 am when I was starting to feel detached from reality it felt immersive. Cove reminds me of the first person I loved, and we had a bad falling out. This game got me thinking about what would have happened if I had done some stuff differently. But enough about my regrets and crap, this game was a roller coaster of emotions and I loved it. I see myself it more in the future, and I'll probably get DLC sometime, too. <33 It's such a simple story but it's incredible at the same time. The characters are awesome too, amazing job. This game also gave me hope about my future, oddly enough. While It made me kind of sad I don't know certain people anymore, I couldn't help but look forward to the future. It also includes a lot, relating to social stuff. Stuff I probably didn't think that much about in a daily basis. I never thought about having two moms, this was a lovely experience!

I really love this game and i'm grateful for all the effort you put into making this amazing game. Does anyone know when you can buy the DLCs for step 3?

(+2)

Thank you <3! We'll be releasing the Step 3 DLC in about three months.

I just finished playing ''Charity'' and i truly cannot express how grateful i am to this game and how amazing it really is. More than amazing! Thank you for all your hard work and I'll gladly pay way more for the DLCs if it is, because you all deserves way more than you get

(+1)

Aw, thank you so much!

(+3)

I had some trouble downloading the game ('cause my laptop is a bit old), but it was so worth it when I actually got to play. I fell in love with every single aspect of this game: the characters, the writing, the visuals, everything!!

The story is so immersive and I felt such a strong connection to the fictional characters that I just couldn't not cry throughout the whole step 3 and the final scenes. I wish I could forget everything I saw just so I could play the game again and again and again like it was the first time.

Thank you all for this incredible experience and I simply can't wait until step 4 is available.

I swear I didn't choose the name 'Orca' on purpose hhhhhhh. Such a surprise.

(+1)

This has been such a wonderful experience. I noticed that after I loaded the game for my second play session, it seems like the remnants of the firefly animation is stuck on the screen no matter what background. I tried to catch a gif, if you look closely you should see the movements. It's not terrible, but it is a bit distracting. I figure it must be some sort of code issue so wanted to let you know.

(+1)

Thank you ^^

(+1)

I always thought that was intentional, like little pieces of dust floating around to make things feel more alive.

(+1)

From what I can tell it wasn't there until after a scene with the fireflies and moves in the same patterns so I figured there was a code issue.  I think dust would float down rather than moving quickly and erratically. But I could  be wrong. One of my games (also made in Ren'Py ) uses something similar for insects and snow so I may be overthinking it.

(1 edit) (+1)

Nah, you're probably right. Tbh that was actually my first thought too, but I decided not to mention it since it didn't bother me.

(+9)

I just finished it and it's the first game that makes me cry without having a sad context. They worked the characters so well, the story is simple but incredibly entertaining, it tackles themes correctly and the design is beautiful.

(+8)

I've been going through really rough times recently and was really burnt out emotionally and physically, this game means everything to me. It has given me the ability to feel again and to feel what love really is like. My heart was on a rollercoaster when playing this and I truly live for it. I am really sad and regret playing the game for 20 hours straight and going through it all in one night. After finishing the game I can't help but keep thinking about the wonderful and captivating story you all have made. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart and soul. I will eagerly wait for the next step. The only thing I have a problem with is how lovely this story is and how sad it is that it's just fiction!! I've never felt like I was needed by anyone in life, but this story made my heart skip and even if it is just fiction, I love this game with all my heart.

If I buy the dlcs on Steam how do I get them on my android?

I'm afraid you can't. Steam doesn't support Android files no matter what. We can only host them here, so you'd have to buy the DLCs through Itch if you'd like to have the Android version.

Oh shame I sadly can't buy it here but I still play it on my computer

I'm really sorry! I hope it works out on your computer.

This VN was worth the play and I grieve for those who haven't played it yet. It explores a lot of topics that many VN's don't and, while I admit that there are a few loose ends, the story helps overlook that. I'm usually not into slice of life genres, but the story was so wholesome and heartwarming that I was hooked all through out. Play this for sure!

(+4)

I absolutely love this game! It's so realistic and inclusive! It deals with a lot of social issues very well. I don't think I know any people in any game or even people in real life with lesbian parents, but I really felt comfortable with them because they were just honestly wonderful parents who loved my character for who she was. I also found the parts about learning about my character's biological parents and Cove's parent's divorce to be very well executed. I absolutely loved how I got to customize my character and Cove. It was a bit sad that I couldn't get any CGs with my character in it, but it's completely understandable since I could basically make my character look however I want her to so it'd probably cost a large fortune to draw all of the potential CGs. I felt Cove was so personal to me and I absolutely loved him. There were so many choices and I felt like my choices really mattered and my choices were even referenced later on in the game, which I thought was AWESOME because I don't think many games really do that. Even if I felt I made a  choice I didn't like, or I wanted to see what the other choices would do, I could always just scroll back and my choices would just undo, and I thought that was super neat. There were just so many choices that I could make and the game never made me feel like I made the "wrong" choice, like in most otome games. I was just me, and as long as I loved Cove, he'd like me back. This made me feel super relaxed because I won't ever feel like that to get the best out of the game, I would need a walkthrough or anything. I love the art and the setting of the story too. It was so cute! I loved how all the characters looked and I thought they were absolutely gorgeous. There were so many drawn characters, even ones that weren't really that relevant, but I thought it was really nice because it made me feel more immersed in the world and the world just felt real to me. In real life, not everyone you meet will stick with you for life, and not everyone who made an impression on you will absolutely be important to you, and I felt like the game reflected on that fact. The minor characters weren't useless clutter, they were people that I got to know and love, even if only just for a short while. I love how the original story is free but you have to pay for extra DLC. This way, I'd only have to pay after I knew I was totally going to enjoy the game, which I did! I would totally recommend this to anyone because everything about this game was awesome. The characters and settings all felt so real and the art and music made it so immersive. The game was also really inclusive to everyone, and I'm really glad I was able to play this game, so thanks to the developers!

They don't have a release date yet.

God this game is a godsent. Absolutely my favourite otome and visual novel just in general. I can't wait for more content and I haven't even finished the game yet! I have to pace myself or I'll get too impatient for more! But for real, this is amazing and the creators seem so attentive to their players. They made a big fan out of me. I'll for sure support their future work too!

I'll also probably but the game DLC a second time if I have to (own it on Steam) so I can have it on my phone as well c:

I've been following this game since early development and I'm really glad that the full game is out! I played one full playthrough on my desktop, but then when I tried to install it on my laptop I cannot customize the MC :( When I press the arrows, nothing happens. Same with the checkboxes.

I'm sorry for the trouble. Are you using Mac, Windows, or Linux? And is it build 1.0 or 1.1 (you can see the number on the main menu).

Windows, and 1.1.

Have you ever downloaded the game before? Like a demo or version 1.0? If so, I'd recommend deleting all prior versions and also re-downloading/installing 1.1. It's possible that your computer is unfortunately struggling to run the game in certain ways, though.

My computer is old so that's probably the case. Thank you anyway!

Don't get me wrong I love this game a lot, I supported on patreon when I was able to afford it but I downloaded the game and it won't install. Every time I try to install it 'game can't install' pops up. I'm an android user and normally I make sure that I have more than enough room on my phone for it.

I'm sorry you're having trouble with that! Are you downloading directly from Itch or through the App? And does your phone have any firewall/virus scanner programs? Those sometimes decide the file is weird and won't let it be put on the phone so turning that off could help. It's also possible that Itch is just being weird and sometimes you can't properly download things and then the issue just goes away the next day or so.

Were you able to play the game in the past? If so, maybe try removing any old files you have of it on the device in case your phone thinks you already have the game and that's why it can't be readded. I hope one of those ideas helps!

I really love this game and don't get me wrong I love Cove, he is an angel but once I saw Baxter I fell in love with him and wished we could've had him as a love interest also.

(+5)

You can have him as a love interest, just not yet, Baxter  and Derek will be romance options as DLC, probably to be released next year ;)

(+2)

Hey there!

I very much love Our Life, but I am running into a bit of a glitch where after 5 or so minutes, all audio in the game just totally stops. I am running Mac, and I have the Voiced Name DLC installed. Just thought I might give you all a heads up!

(Cove is so adorable in every iteration/route btw! You should be so proud of the game you produced!)

Thank you for letting us know! I haven't heard of that error before. We'll look into it. I'm glad you're enjoying things despite that ^^

Hi! I love Our Life: Beginnings & Always so much.

But I have a problem : I'm an Android user and I downloaded the game before and played it with no issues, then I deleted it to download the latest version but I couldn't download it. I kept trying but I still can't download either version.

I'm sorry for the trouble. Can you tell me more details? Does your device say it's not allowed or does nothing happen when you try to click download or something else?

(1 edit)

It downloads around 10% and then says "Download failed".

By the way, I'm sorry if I couldn't describe it completely in my first comment, English is not my first language.

I have heard of Androids sometimes having errors like that, it tends to because of the cache on the phone or something rather than the file you're trying to download. Here's one thread trying to solve it, but if you search "Android Download Failed" you can find more info on it!
https://support.google.com/chrome/thread/15277772?hl=en

I hope that helps.

Hi, I'm having trouble using the step 1 and step 2 DLCs on android. How do I get them to work? ^^'

You just have to download the Android files from the DLC pages once you've bought them and then install them like normal! It's okay if you already have the free base version or if you don't. If you're getting errors, feel free to let us know.

Yes, I download both the dlcs but only one of them works.

Wow. Just wow.

I knew that I was going to like this game but I never expected it to become the best romance game I've ever played.

It was really endearing to follow Cove's and MC's life throughout the 3 steps. The fact that there is so much customization that is then mentioned in several dialogues, the impecable way in which sexuality was handled, the relationship with both families... it's just brilliant.

I'm on my very late twenties and identify as DemiGray Ace but, even though I love romance, it's VERY difficult for me to find romance stories where I can actually relate to any of the characters (ironically, the ones where you can self insert are the ones where I can actually relate even less). Cove was an extremely pleasant surprise and a breath of fresh air. I could relate so much to so many of his feelings such as overthinking bad scenarios, his fear and indecisiveness of pursuing a romantic relationship both emotionally and physically, the guilt and sadness he feels about having to make others wait for him to be ready to experience certain things, the way he feels like sometimes he physically can't take steps forward but at the same time really wants to... all of that hit so close to home it made me tear up. It also made me really happy that I could customize the MC to be similar to myself,  it made the experience all the more personal and endearing. I may not have had a romantic relationship yet, but this game really pampered me with how I wish it could be.

Thank you so much for making this game, it gave me a lot of warm and happy feelings. I lost count of all the butterflies I felt while I was playing and I'll probably play many times over <3

Really excited to see the remaining DLCs (Baxter has me really curious too) and Step 4!

Also, if it's alright, I wanted to make a little question: is Step 3 the last chance you have to romance Cove or can you also start a romance with him on Step 4?

Again, thank you so much for making such a wonderful game and I look forward to more Our Life content! I'm thinking I may even become a Patreon soon, hehe <3

(+4)

Aw, thank you so much ;v;! It's lovely to hear you had such a nice time with it. And you will be able to start a romance with Cove in Step 4 if you want to wait until then to begin a romance/relationship with him.

(+3)

can't wait for step 3 DLC & step 4 🥰💛

This game looks amazing, but I’m having a problem.  I successfully downloaded the game for the PC and got through character creation, but once I get past that, the game keeps freezing about one to two lines in.  Any suggestions?

I'm sorry you're having trouble! If the game is suddenly crashing there's a few things it could be. Your firewall/virus scanner may force the game to stop then crash while playing. Turning your scanner off while installing/playing, seeing if the antivirus program needs an update, and/or finding a way to tell the scanner that Our Life is safe are ways to potentially fix the problem. Crashing problems are also sometimes caused by issues with settings for your graphics card(s).  Or you can try making the game easier to run by turning off animations and playing in a smaller window, since maybe the game is just struggling to run for some reason. I hope one of those helps!

(1 edit) (-8)

Lol, i wish all the dlc steps in step 1 to step 3 would be free lol

(+17)(-1)

If everything was free, none of it would exist. Then even the free base game couldn't be enjoyed by people because we wouldn't have been able to make Our Life in the first place.  I'd maybe recommend wishing that at some point you'll have the few dollars needed to get a paid DLC rather than wishing that game devs don't get any support ^^;.

(+1)

Here i am thinking the DLCs were really cheap and i would without hesitation pay way more, if you raised the prices. I'm still amazed that the full game is even free in the first place

(1 edit) (+3)

this is such a nice game, i really like how characters can have scars and acne, but text to speech doesnt work for the mc's choices

(+1)

Hello there! I absolutely LOVE this game, I've played since it was on the demo stage.

But I have a problem: When I download it on android the .apk file downloads just fine, but when I open it it crashes. What can I do?

(+2)

I'm really glad you like it! Does the game say anything before it crashes? And do you have any type of virus scanner? Sometimes those refuse to let the game run properly because they don't trust it. Also, you can try renaming the apk file to not have any  periods (having it be ourlifeapk instead of ourlife.apk). Removing those helped one person run the file more easily.

(+1)

I do no't have a virus scanner, so it isn't that.

I've tried renaming the file. When I do that id downlads the game ok, but when I open the game it just crashes, with no messag

(+1)

I'm sorry for that. Can you let me know how old the phone is? There are some models that are too old to properly run the full game, unfortunately. Also, are you downloading the file directly or through the Itch app, using the the Itch app can cause problems.

I think the phone is from 2016, unfortunately.

I downladed it directly. Maybe if I download it from the itch.io app it will work

I had another phone, from 2014 and it worked there

(+2)

Hm, is this the full version now? :D

(+6)

This is the full version! The full game with step 1-3 is completely free, with step 4 (kinda like one big epilogue which will also be free!) still in the making. It is optional to buy step 1 and step 2 dlcs (as well as other future dlcs), but you won't miss out anything from the main plot even if you choose not to!

I ended buying them anyway because it is just THAT good, but you don't necessarily have to and will have just as much fun! I hope this helps :))

(+1)

Thank you :)

This rlly helps

(1 edit)

I found something a little weird in step 3... I chose for Cove to be without his glasses, but in the CG after the ORCA event, he appears with glasses. Is it a glitch or something? thanks in advance

edit: same for the CG in the car during "drive"

(-1)

Wait u gotta buy step 1 until step 3? Aw man..

(+4)

you made zero sense

what? no of course not... where did I say you have to buy anything lol

Deleted 1 year ago

yeah probably

I've noticed little differences with the CGs, but glasses being there or not sounds like a very noticeable one. I always choose for him to have glasses, but I choose his updo with cartilage ear piercings and in the CGs he doesn't have the piercing.

I imagine they just haven't fully updated all the CGs to implement all the choices yet. Maybe think of the glasses as driving glasses? That way after ORCA it's like he just forgot to take them off, too.

(+2)

I've finished step 2 (after impulsively buying the DLC in the middle of the night) and I'm currently in the middle of step 3! I can't wait for the release of the step 3 DLC!

10000/5, I would like to play this game for eternity, please and thank you

(+7)

I'm usually into dark, angsty themes, but this game has wrecked me! It's so sweet and wholesome that it has revived my cold dead heart to a simpler time. Cove is just... god. The character development, the supportive family/friends (I LOVE Liz/Elizabeth/Lizzie), the dialogue is all god tier! I can't wait till I clock out so I can get the DLC. I'm way too invested in this game and Cove's development that I spent the better half of yesterday trying to figure out why I didn't try this game earlier. Devs, you all are literally the best. Thank you for this game. This is the content that I didn't know I needed.

(+5)

I just saw how many hours I have on steam and... Wow... I like to pretend I forgot to close the game.

(+8)

I never comment really. But I have to tell you this and I really hope you read it! This game hits home for me so much! I found the game on Steam by accident and tried it out, since free. After only 10minutes of playing, I bought both dlcs. After a few days, I bought everything for my phone again. (I hope every lil cent helps?!) So I can play on my way to work. allthought the dlcs overwrite each other on my phone for some reason.

I am part adopted (my dad left as soon as he found out about me) and as my mom found a new husband, he adopted me. I teared up as that section came on, since my parents handled it similar and where always open about my adoption.

Also Cove Is a lot like my fiance, who is on the autistic spectrum. He is (over-)thinking a lot, too and had problems with romantic and physical stuff in the beginning. Cove reacts so similar that I fell right at home. Iam not saying that Cove is canon on that spectrum, just that he reminds me of the love of my life. I can't thank you enough for this revolutionary game and I hope that it will change the visual novel industry. One day I want to support you on patreon.

Also I hope with time there will be more walktrhoughsheets. I see a lot of interesting dialog which I yet hope to find.

Thank you for bringing me home. I sincerely hope you read this.

(+6)

I just had to say, that there are sooo many choices and outcomes that I thoroughly enjoy!

While playing, I personally made my mc optimistic and considerate to a fault. At the moment, I just wanted to play around with my options and thought "hey, why not make her cheery exterior falter a bit?" It was then that I came across a scene where she was told that it was okay to not be okay and it just hits close to home. I had to admit, I ended up bawling at the scene.

I adore that no matter what choices you make, the people around the mc will completely and unconditionally love and care for them. It's incredibly heartwarming and I cannot express how much I adore this game. So thank you so much for making this. Thank you so much for all your hard work!!

p.s. I bought both of the DLCs available as well as the soundtrack and I'm excited for your future releases!

(+5)

Ive been playing this game literally everyday, but with different ways to confess, exploring options I havent made,  make Cove confess instead, etc.  I am in love with this game like it truly makes me happy. Im a senior in highschool so some things are relatable, but omg I cannot wait for step 4! Just imagining it already has me so hype!!! Im so glad I stumbled upon ths game and just its whole concept is mesmerizing. Thank you for this wonderful creation! <3

(+2)

Hi! I've played through this game three times with the DLCs and everything already, and I'm OBSESSED. I just have one teeny tiny question :) is there a time estimate for when Step 4 is coming out? Mid 2021?

(+4)

Thank you <3! And yeah, mid-2021 is probably a good estimate but we're not 100% sure yet.

When opening character creation on Android the keyboard will remain up till you press enter (you can backspace to delete the default name and write whatever you like, then enter). It's confusing...

On my phone, renaming the APK file to ourlife.apk was needed for it to be recognised as a valid application. (Maybe it's the period in the full filename?) Just a heads-up :)
